Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic also a speaker who is Canadian. Feminist Frequency is a website that hosts videos and commentaries analysing portrayals women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource for education that examines women's roles in pop culture narratives, is her brainchild. The site also has the director of operations. Committed to destroying the stereotypes related to women in popular media, she is also working on issues related the gender-specific harassment of women as well as others online. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in social and political thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is well-known and has been a speaker at TEDxWomenXOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was fascinated by feminist issues, gender and gender equality at a early stage of her life. In 2009, while still studying at university she started the Feminist Frequency web site. An ambitious woman who wanted to start a web-series examining the gender-based representation in video games, she was targeted by an online campaign. However the attack could be a deterrent, but it only strengthened her resolve as a feminist media critic.
